Currently run by sisters Jennifer (L) and Sally (R) Pierson, the story of Dixon Bros. began in 1895, when Cyrus Byram Dixon built Boonton’s first icehouse.

The icehouse business thrived until World War I. Then Cyrus’s three sons went off to war and, with his sons gone, Cyrus Dixon closed the business. It wasn’t until 1919, after Cyrus’s sons returned from the war, that they put their heads together and renewed the business.

This time, a new service was offered and a new name created: Dixon Bros. Wood & Ice. As times changed, the brothers shifted the emphasis to coal (1920) and then to heating oil in 1926.

Even so, block ice remained an important part of the business until 1945!
